In the MSc programme Applied Communication Science students learn to integrate communication science with problem solving and innovation in the domain of the life sciences. Not only in the Netherlands, but in the whole world. That is only possible in Wageningen!
Developing appropriate responses to international challenges such as climate change, obesity, infectious diseases, water scarcity, poverty and environmental degradation requires that insights and perspectives from all kinds of disciplines and stakeholders are identified and become integrated. In practice, however, such integration is often difficult to achieve because different people tend to frame problems and underlying causes differently and hence pursue different solutions and strategies. The MSc programme Applied Communication Science offers insights in how and why diverging viewpoints come about and are maintained in communicative interaction, and also in how communication may serve to build bridges between different interpretative communities. Such insights are linked to a thorough understanding of how change in society comes about, and what this implies for communication researchers and professionals.
In this MSc programme, students become acquainted with a wide range of roles for communication professionals, including process management, knowledge brokerage, demand articulation, mediation, persuasion and the facilitation of interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
Eventually our graduated communication specialists know what they talk about, understand their own message. They can make contact with people from several worlds and act as a bridge between science and practice, between citizens and government.
